Southpaw vs orthodox: winning the lead-foot battle
In open stance, the fighter whose lead foot is outside controls the power lines. Here's how to win that position.
Outside foot position
Getting your lead foot outside your opponent's lines up your rear straight down the middle and takes their power hand out of play.
How to get there
- Step outside behind a feint or a lead-hand parry.
- Use the lead hand to paw and occupy their lead hand.
- Circle away from their power side after every exchange.
Drill
Footwork-only rounds: both fighters try to step outside without punching. Add the jab and rear straight once the movement is automatic.
