Your first amateur MMA fight: a practical checklist
Paperwork, medicals, weight, corner and recovery — everything a first-time amateur should sort before fight week.
Eight weeks out
- Confirm the bout, weight class and rules with the promotion in writing.
- Book medicals early: blood work and an eye examination are commonly required.
- Agree a camp plan with your coach, including sparring days.
Fight week
- Plan a sensible weight cut with your coach — amateurs should not be cutting heavily.
- Pack: mouthguard, cup, shorts, rash guard (if required), ID, medical papers.
- Know who your cornermen are and what they are allowed to do.
After the fight
Get checked by the ringside doctor. Ask the promotion for the official result sheet and add the fight to your FightCircle profile with the source so it can be verified.
